Ghana Somubi Dwumadie

A four-year disability inclusion programme in Ghana

Ghana Somubi Dwumadie (Ghana Participation Programme) is a four-year disability programme in Ghana, with a specific focus on mental health. This programme is funded with UK aid from the UK government. The programme is run by an Options’ led consortium, which also consists of BasicNeeds-Ghana, Kings College London, Sightsavers International and Tropical Health, and focuses on four key areas.

2020 update

Ghana Somubi Dwumadie's first year of operation occurred during an exceptional global coronavirus pandemic, leading to challenges in implementing planned activities. Towards the end of 2020 national elections further delayed some programme activities.  Despite these challenges, the programme has made significant progress. Stakeholder engagement was key, and activities were reprioritised to focus on the impact of COVID-19, including the rapid assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on people with disabilities, including people with mental health disabilities, which informed the programme’s COVID-19 interventions.
